Parent Check In–11/8

Parent Check In–11/8

Today we are going to check in with your goals and update your parent/guardian as to how things are going.

Like we talked about a few weeks ago, you have to intentionally choose the person you want to become. The first six-weeks is officially over and now we need to revisit how your goals are going.

STEP 1: Log in to your email. (You can get to your student email here if you don’t have a personal one: my.fwisd.org. Log in like you do on the computer, click on Office 365  and then click on Outlook ) Also through the my.fwisd page you can log in to Focus and see what your final grade was for the second six-weeks.

STEP 2: Create a new message to send . In the “To” line, type your parent’s email address. In the “CC” line, type my email address (Sarah.Vondra@fwisd.org). This copies me in on the email so that I can see that you sent it and I can give you a grade for sending it (YES, it’s a grade).

STEP 3: The subject line of the email should say “English Check In”.

STEP 4: Copy and paste the following message into the body of the email, then change/complete the sentences and blanks (__________) so that it makes sense for you.

Copy and paste:

Hi ____________,

I just wanted to update you on how things were going for me. Last 6-weeks I got a ____% in Mrs. Vondra’s Pre-AP English I class. This is mainly because _________________________. Moving forward, I plan to do _________________ differently because I expect more from myself. Like I’ve said before I want to be the type of person who ____________________________________, so moving forward I’m going to focus on _____________________________________.

My goal for English class was _______________________________. So far it’s going _______. I plan on continuing to _____________________ (OR I plan on starting to _____________). This six-weeks I really want to _____________________________ and I’m going to accomplish that by ___________________________________________.

Recently I’ve been learning about ______________________________. I want to learn more about/I’m still kind of confused by/This made me think of _______________________________.

I’m doing good/not good on my commitment to ___________________________. Moving forward I plan on ______________________________.

I’m going to be following up with you about every three weeks to update you on how my goals and plans are working out. Thanks for taking the time to partner with me.

Sincerely,

_____________________

P.S. This email is my first 100% of the third six-weeks 🙂

STEP 5: When you are finished filling out the email message, it’s addressed to your parent, and I’m in the CC line, press SEND. You’re done!

District Thing

District Thing

AFTER you finish your Membean and NRI Tests, the district wants you to do this silly quiz.

Click here: https://www.schoolobjects.com/Aware/OnlineTesting?org=FOR-57019454-660

Username: Student ID Number (# only!)

Password: welcome

Take the quiz (the questions pop up first, the story it’s asking the questions about can be accessed by clicking the little button “Show Resources” in the bottom left hand corner)

Do well on this and we can keep doing our own thing instead of the district’s.

Welcome to Open House

Welcome to Open House

Hello, and welcome to Pre-AP English I!

In the middle of the tables you’ll find candy (help yourself!), a blue paper that is the “Cliff Notes” version of my syllabus, and a white half-sheet of paper where you can leave as much or as little info behind as you’d like. 🙂

I’m so glad to meet you!

(If you haven’t already, please make sure you sign in with the school at this URL: www.fwisd.org/openhouse )

Tuesday 9/11

Tuesday 9/11

Today is picture day, but once you are finished with your picture you have three options to be working on:

First, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, if you haven’t finished your Lexile Test on Achieve 3000 you need to do that first. Log on to Achieve 3000 via my.fwisd.org and click on Achieve 3000. Pick my class from the drop-down menu and the Lexile LevelSet should be still waiting for you there.

Second, you may choose to work on your homework assignment on No Red Ink for this week. It is a simple assignment to ease you into the weekly homework.

Third, you may work on completing some of your 45 minutes on Membean . Remember not to do all 45 minutes at once, because your brain can’t remember all of that, and also because you’ll get points docked if you don’t split up the time.

If you finish all three tasks you’re welcome to work on late work or work for another class.
